Fabric Strip Yield Calculator
Whole pieces = whole strips × pieces per strip. Enter usable fabric dimensions after trimming; this planner keeps the strip direction fixed and shows the offcuts separately.

How the calculation works
Divide fabric length by strip width and round down for the strip count. Divide fabric width by piece length and round down for pieces per strip. Multiply those two whole counts. Cut sizes already include your pattern’s seam allowances.
Worked example
A usable 40 × 36 inch piece yields 14 strips at 2.5 inches wide. Each strip holds 6 pieces at 6.5 inches long: 84 pieces in total. The fabric leaves 1 inch along its length and 1 inch at the end of each strip.
Check before you start
This is a straight-grain cutting layout, not a continuous bias calculation. It does not rotate pieces, join offcuts, allow for print matching or add seam allowances. Measure usable fabric after washing and squaring. Check grain direction before cutting.
These calculations use the dimensions you enter and the stated layout rules. They do not estimate fabric shrinkage or yarn usage.
