Crochet Gauge Calculator: Stitch Multiples
Divide stitches by the measured swatch width, then multiply by your target width. This calculator adjusts the result to your stitch repeat and shows the width that count actually makes.

How the calculation works
Stitches per inch = counted stitches ÷ measured width. Multiply by target width for the unrounded count. For a repeat of m stitches plus e extra stitches, choose the nearest positive whole repeat count and calculate repeats × m + e. Extra stitches must be less than the repeat multiple.
Worked example
With 16 stitches across 4 inches, a 30-inch piece needs 120 stitches. A repeat of 7 plus 2 gives 17 repeats and 121 stitches. At the same gauge that measures 30.25 inches, a quarter inch wider than the target.
Check before you start
Measure a blocked swatch in the same stitch pattern as the project. This is a flat-width estimate, not garment grading. It excludes turning chains, borders, shaping and stretch. Use the pattern’s starting-chain rule; a stitch count is not always the foundation-chain count.
These calculations use the dimensions you enter and the stated layout rules. They do not estimate fabric shrinkage or yarn usage.
